AuroraRMG is a standalone random map template generator for Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.

It helps players create ready-to-use .rmg.json templates for the game’s random map generator through a convenient visual interface instead of manually editing JSON files.

With AuroraRMG, you can quickly configure the structure, size, economy, zones, terrain, monsters, victory conditions and other map rules, then generate a template and use it directly in the game.

Main strengths:

• Easy map generation — create a playable random map template in just a few clicks.
• Simple and Advanced modes — use a quick setup for casual play or full manual control for detailed map building.
• 43 built-in presets — including classic 1v1, single-hero duels, FFA maps, PvE scenarios and special game modes.
• Visual zone editor — edit the map structure as a graph with zones, connections, portals, guards, castles and outposts.
• Map preview — check the generated layout before saving the template.
• Balance analysis — see a balance score from 0 to 100 and a short breakdown of the generated map.
• Large map support — create maps larger than the standard template sizes, including experimental very large maps.
• Detailed control over gameplay — adjust resources, structures, neutral army strength, roads, portals, water, terrain and other parameters.
• Bans and restrictions — ban specific items, spells or heroes from appearing on the generated map.
• Two interface languages — English and Russian, switchable directly in the application.
• Auto-update support — the tool can check for new versions and update itself.
• Portable single-file app — no installation required, just run the executable.

What the tool is useful for:

• Creating fair and replayable 1v1 maps.
• Generating PvE maps against several AI opponents.
• Making larger and longer maps for rich exploration.
• Testing different map structures without hand-writing template files.
• Building custom scenarios with specific rules and restrictions.
• Sharing templates with other players.

How to use:

  1. Run AuroraRMG.exe.
  2. Choose Simple Mode for quick generation or Advanced Mode for full control.
  3. Configure the map manually or select one of the built-in presets.
  4. Click Create map / Create template.
  5. Save the generated .rmg.json file into the game’s template folder:

\HeroesOldenEra_Data\StreamingAssets\map_templates

  1. Launch Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.
  2. Start a new game.
  3. Select your generated template from the template list.

Requirements:

• Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
• Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.
• No separate .NET runtime is required.

Important notes:

• AuroraRMG creates random map templates, not finished maps. The game generates the final map from the template when starting a new game.
• Some advanced options are experimental and may produce unusual or unbalanced results.
• It is recommended to test newly generated templates before starting a serious match.
• Windows SmartScreen may show an “unknown publisher” warning because the executable is not signed with a paid publisher certificate.
