The Early Access launch of Olden Era has been exciting for long-time Heroes fans, but one missing feature keeps coming up in the community: a proper random map generator.
Although the developer Unfrozen has plans to improve the map generator in the recently revealed roadmap, a new community-made open-source tool, AuroraRMG, aims to fill this gap early by providing players with a simple interface for creating randomized map templates for Olden Era.
In the current version of the software, players can select a few basic options for the map (such as player count, map size and victory condition), and the rest is generated randomly. The generated template can then be saved to the automatically detected game folder, or it can be tweaked further using all the detailed settings available in Advanced mode. The tool is based on the great work of deKhan’s Simple Template Generator, building on Olden Era’s existing template logic but expanding it into a much more flexible and user-friendly experience.
AuroraRMG is available on GitHub with downloads and instructions on how to use the tool. It is still under active development, so feedback, bug reports and ideas are more than welcome. You can leave comments on the project in the HoMMdb mod page.
We will keep a close eye on the development of AuroraRMG and will provide you with more content and guides on using the tool in the near future.

# ✨ AuroraRMG 1.8.0 — More Control and Maps with up to 48 Zones
A new version of **AuroraRMG** is now available — a visual random map template generator for **Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era**.
Version 1.8.0 improves the visual zone editor, increases the maximum template size, and makes castle distribution in the Lanes topology more balanced.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
## ↶ Undo and Redo
The visual zone editor now includes a complete edit history:
– `Ctrl + Z` — undo the last action;
– `Ctrl + Y` — redo an undone action;
– dedicated Undo and Redo buttons were added to the toolbar;
– up to **50 previous changes** are stored.
You can now move zones, edit connections, and adjust settings without worrying about accidentally breaking the template.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
## 🗺 Up to 48 Zones per Template
The Advanced Mode zone limit has been increased from **32 to 48 zones**.
The maximum number of random portals has also been increased to 48.
> Simple Mode keeps its existing 32-zone limit to preserve compatibility with previous settings and generated results.
The editor now displays a live zone and connection counter. If the template contains more than 48 zones, AuroraRMG will warn that this configuration has not yet been verified with the game engine.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
## ⚔ Improved Lanes Topology
Neutral castles are now distributed more evenly between lanes.
Previously, several castles could appear in the same corridors while other players received none. The generator now tries to maintain symmetry and provide fairer conditions for every player.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
## 🌍 New Biome Documentation
A dedicated biome section has been added to the visual editor help:
– `MatchMainObject` — matches the biome to the faction of the zone’s main object;
– `MatchZone` — copies the biome from another specified zone;
– `FromList` — randomly selects a biome from the provided list.
The documentation also includes an example showing how to make neighboring zones match the starting biome of a player.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
## 🔗 GitHub Button
A new GitHub button has been added to the application header.
It provides quick access to the source code, releases, bug reports, and feature suggestions.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
## 🛠 Additional Improvements
– updated Russian and English documentation;
– refreshed all current interface screenshots;
– expanded the visual editor help;
– added tests for generating 48-zone templates;
– added tests for balanced castle distribution.
